Posi-Shell is green because:

  1. It conserves natural resources.  A typical landfill covering 15,000 square feet of garbage per day using the standard 6” of soil working 6 days per week they use 1,667 cubic yards of soil.  If this soil were placed on a standard football field it would cover the field 52’ deep.  Posi-Shell eliminates this waste of soil.

  2. It conserves fuel.  A typical earthmoving operation required to handle the operation listed in #1 would generally involve the following: 1 excavator, 2 to 4 off road articulating dump trucks and 1 to 2 bulldozers.  This is assuming the soil is left onsite from the construction of the cells and is staged in a borrow area – generally these are ¼ mile or more from the daily cover area.  Therefore daily a crew works moving soil from that borrow to go on the cover for that day.
If the soil is off site the negative carbon emission is compounded by the over the road moving of the soil.
The comparison of 136 gallons of fuel used per day for soil, and the 15 used per day for Posi-Shell is both a cost savings and a reduction in the emissions created.  This reduced use of equipment creates less overall fluid disposal from maintenance as well.

  3. Posi-Shell conserves our environment along with reducing carbon emissions – the resource of the very land itself is saved by drastically reducing the wasted space taken by soil covers.  Currently permitted landfills can easily be extended by 25% by the use of Posi-Shell.  This then reduces the need for taking other lands for development into landfills.

  4. Posi-Shell works to keep negative elements from leaching into our streams or blowing into our homes.  Posi-Shell has the ability to contain negative elements at remediation sites where we are cleaning up from our past, protecting from wind and water erosion.
